I got 93 on step 1. I am not so sure how to react... I wanted a top score. I think 93 sounds great, but since 75 is a pass I am not so sure any more. Anyone who knows how these scores are valued?

Hey, you pass, that's great.
how did you prepered for the test , can you share your experience.

Great, that makes me happy to hear!
I prepared by using a wide variety of books that took my liking. I took a lot of tests daily to get MCQ experience and I read the Princeton review. I used some NMS material - tests & also NMS behavioral science, this book is of great value for FMGs. Looking at picture books was good too. I used some books from the Lecture notes series, for example human physiology. But otherwise I just found books that were extensive and structured. The last 2 weeks I did not introduce any new material and did not do any more tests, but reviewed previous wrong answers on old tests. For the last few weeks I also studied notes on high yield material like lung and heart physiology etc. It was hard work!
The test is based on computer adaptive seuential testing and therefor the questions will get harder and harder all the time if you are doing good. This was frustrating, cause I did not know this fact.

Is it really computer adaptive , I dont see any mention of it in the usmle/ecfmg websites.... ? Is it really computer adaptive?

The exam IS NOT computer adaptive, although they are working on it. At least thats what the first few pages of USMLE1 first aid says.

You can calculate your percentile knowing your 3 digit score, wich i guess should be around 234 right? Knowing that the mean on 3digit is 215 and the SD is 20*, if your score is indeed 235 on 3dig you rank in the 84th percentile, Congratulations !!

*See First aid for step1 in the first few pages.

That is correct... It is NOT computer adaptive.
At this time all questions are worth one point.

When computer adaptation is used there are different
values assigned to each question depending on
how difficult the makers assess the question to be.

Thankfully we don't have to worry about that, yet!

I do know a way around computer adaptive tests
if I have to face it in the future!
