I have a question regarding the format of the LOR. According to the ERAS guidelines/cover sheet, the person writing the LOR has to "include in the letter whether or not I have waived my right to see the recommendation." Is this absolutely necessary? Most of those I asked to make an LOR for me did not indicate that I did/did not waive my right to do so. Does it make a difference for program directors? Also, the ERAS LOR cover sheet states "Please do not make your letter specialty-specific?" What does that mean? Aren't LOR's supposed to be specialty specific since they are made by physicians who are specialized in the field that I want to pursue? If I want to be a resident of IM, it would be logical for me to get an LOR from an IM consultant, and naturally he/she will right about my skills pertaining to IM (and not surgery or OB). Thank you in advance for your reply.
