Schumi crushed alonso man, good 4.5 sec.+ . Well worth spending 2 hrs on it . ( the final pit stop was the key to the victory) I know Achiles, everyone loves to see the making of a hero, but what people love even more is watching him fall. Sad but true. I get inspired by this great sports celebs, be it- Schumi, Roger federer or our own Sachin..... They keep me going...... It cant just be talent, its more of dedication and passion for what they do and i bet you if we can even put in a fraction of effort they put in there respective professions- step2ck 99/280+ will read the score report!!!!!!!!!! Back to questions for the time being

drkpp, looks like our method of getting inspiration is also the same ...i get inspired by true stories and i read autobiographies sometimes... sachin and dravid are really inspiring...and so are many other sports celebs who really sweat it out...thats passion ! these guys are really driven from the inside. i hope i can do it and maintain it. i had the good fortune to attend one function organised by a big organisation into child care and they had called silken lauman as their guest speaker. she was the world champ in rowing. 6 wks before she was to take part in olympics she had a major accident while she was practising. a man in a motor boat hit her and left her legs shattered. doctors predicted that she would be fortunate to be able to walk properly. well as the legend goes she had machines installed in her hospital room and worked on her arms and shoulder muscles (sitting in her hospital bed)while her legs were held together by external fixators !!! well needless to say she won the silver at olympics and missed the gold by some fractions of seconds. and she had that silver medal with her at that time when she was on stage. trully inspiring !!!! i keep reading many such stories. read about terry fox sometimes or lance armstrong. drkpp if sometime in life you feel dejected and down watch the movie - " remember the titans ". you'll be glad you did ! happy studying buddy!!

Still doing questions. But today found such motivating posts by 3535 and karusmle.... Everyone has personal problems and a million reasons to not study like i do!!! And i have realised today that they wont just go away and that i have to learn to leave with them. Should have the courage to go on... I just heard this incident from Navjot singh sidhu's life which i found very motivating: When he had his debut in 1984, there was this critic called Rajan balan who wrote about Sidhu that he was a lustreless cricketer and so on. This article when came in Sidhu's fathers hand, his father had tears in his eyes. This Sidhu saw and had the greatest shock of his life which he thinks is a turning point to his life.... His father with that newspaper in his hand and tears in his eyes. He decided that very moment that he is gonna make his father proud... He would get up at 3a.m everyday and start practicing- he would hit daily 300 sixes( this even made his hands soar and full of blisters but what had to be done had to be done no matter what). This was the determination... In 1986 sidhu hit 5 consecutive 50's and a record breaking number of sixes. The same Rajan balan then wrote " From a lustreless performer to a hitting machine". When sidhu read this he broke into tears - if only his father was still alive to see his son achieve such a feat........ Morale of the story- " A sleeping lion doesn't get the prey right in his mouth, he has to go and fetch it" ( am i sounding more and more like sidhu ) World is there for you to be won....

Hello friends, Just read up a few of your journal entries to keep me from falling asleep at 1am. Interesting how we share the same turmoils during our exam preparations inspite of our different backgrounds and situations. Reminds me of the O. Henry short story "makes the whole world kin". I would like to share my own story. I came to USA in late 2002 because my husband was working here. I never thought I was capable of even completing the USMLEs as I am an old grad (1996) and wanted to have a family etc. and was ready to quit studying. Throughout my pregnancy in 2003, I worked as a research assistant. Working in those labs gave me a sense of self worth and value for my education like nothing else. I was in awe of people that did research for a living, but realized that it was not for me. Too much hard work, over 90% of which amounted to nothing is how I perceived it. I still remember the day I decided I was going to tackle the USMLE- my daughter Poosh was 3 months old and I was sitting at home with her. After some prayer and meditation, I just told my husband that I wanted to try to see if I could prepare for USMLE. The first few days were pure misery. A part of me wanted to laugh and quit, but somehow, I persevered. Working alone, I collected study materials, took the kaplan webprep course for step one and after nearly a year of preparation that was fraught with many distractions, interruptions, guilt over not spending a lot of time with Poosh, bad cooking, skipping many social gatherings etc, I did Step one. I have said that with more drama than there was to it, but really, I did not think I was capable of such hmm, for want of a different word, dedication. I could not have done it without the constant support, encouragement and sacrifices by my husband and dear Poosh too. Right now, I am preparing for Step 3 while waiting for CS results. I have half a mind to not post this entry because it is so full of myself, but I think I will because, maybe, you can relate too.

thanks for the lovely post lisaM. actually to tell you the truth your's was the first journal i read (incidentaly it was at the top of the page when i joined the forum ) and it was inspiring to me (just like this post of yours). i really admire your effort and i do realise how difficult it can become when we have to balance so many things. i am an old grad too. i graduated way back in 1998. and after reading your post i realise how we all are working hard to reach our goals and the constant struggle to overcome obstacles in our daily life and also within ourselves. there are days when we are so tired and it becomes so hard to study. i sometimes think of the time when i will be working in a hospital and if i feel the same way someday then maybe i will not have the luxury to sit back and have a day off or a few hrs off whenever i want it and at that time i will be responsible for someone's health or life. makes me wonder if i am really that strong or will i be that strong oneday. but well we must just keep trying. your story is inspirational and gives me sense and hope. wish you good luck for your CS results and your preparation for step 3.

Acemle, buddy in the holy book of gita it is said " Action is in your hands and not the results." Most imp. thing here is ( even more important then knowing that Ace-I and B blockers both increase the mortality after M.I But ACE-I used only when ejection fraction is decreased.) is the fact that putting in your best effort is what counts rather then gatting a high score. A person who hasent worked as hard as he can when gets a 99/250 thinks , god only if i would have worked hard i would have got 99/280!!!!!! But a person who has worked hard and got a 89 will feel on top of the world. Ofcourse any 99 in any way would do for me !!!!!!!!!!!! As i noted before acemle, "a courageous man is not one who doesnt fear but one who conquers it"- Some elite person

OK. Here we go: The final date of exam is the 6th of june. essentially thats 22 long days rather then the previous 25!!!!!!! I can not afford to postpone the exam anymore. I am gonna accept whatever comes my way but this 22 days, i am gonna max it out. Its not about getting a 99 or about getting a radiology categorial position at some harvard affiliated hospital , its about feeling good and confident that i gave it my best shot. No more video games, no more football or F1, no more of even talking to my wife( have cut it down to once a week), no more of oersonal problems- evryone has them and they cant stop you from reaching your ultimate goal of treating the patients. Its gonna be me, my books and how can i forget my computer( i am gonna miss it the most once am done with the exam)!!!!!!!! The time table is as follows: Note-this is just not another time table- its a do or die situation 15th- 200 q's usw 16th- 4 hrs of obg notes plus nbme2 17th-, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st- Finish of the rest of usw 1000q's. Start working on the weak areas of nbme essentially by going thro kaplan notes.. One block of kaplan simulated a day, start going thro the volumes of usw and kap qbank notes 23- 24 25 Kaplan notes all the way. With B&W brush up. One or two blocks of questions from any source like qbank, mock or nsm. 26th-NBME3 27th-Will choke out a plan once am done with nbme3 28th- 29th- 30th- 31st- 1st- 2 3 4 5 6th--------The day 7th onwards start shopping and having fun for the rest of my life relaxing on the hard work that i have put in.............

just about to finish derma. will need another 2 hrs. and then i will start nephrology. i hope to finish it in 2 days but judging my speed a slowpoke like me will need 3 days. acemle, i know what you are saying. i feel like it was just january yesterday and now we are almost done with half the year !! i dont know if i will be the best man to ask what to read in the final days but i'll tell you what i have planned. i have been marking questions on the UW which i will review in the last days and also i am planning to read the main topics systemwise. for eg. if i am revising pulmonology then i'll read just asthma, copd, lung cancer and pulmonary embolism and probably atelectasis. so this way i will be done with pulmonology in like 2-3 hrs. i dont know if this is the best way but this is what i can do and this is my plan.
