hi

correct me if i am wrong prematch is when the univ offers u the residency durin the interview

n if tats so then how do v kno which university is giving prematch.

Dear Hazel.
the prematch is offered during or after the interview. it is generally given to the best applicants in the program that the program is afraid to loose ( US seniors are not allowed to accept prematchs but IMGs and US DOs are allowed to).

In fact univeristies rarely offer prematchs, community program does it more often. esp the weaker ones in the more remote areas.

you can't know if the program offer a prematch (except by the program history or insider information- like you know personally a resident in the program). otherwise you go you interview and you wait for the to offer.

well.. i wont agree with the weak and remote part in the above post.... as I interviewed at good community places and all of them spoke of offering 20-30% of their positions out of match as they wanted not to loose the good applicants.. but of course the prematches are mostly offered by community places or unv affiliated community programs.. and Uni's usually go for match....

this thread was written by a girl last yr. she got only 1 iview the whole season. in michigan in jan end. iviewed in feb and matched into this program which carried only 3 positions to the match.

that is why I said "esp weaker ". I didn't say that good places don't offer. but the weaker the place the higher the chance they would offer. so we agree after all

When the God want something, it happens. you can get 1 interview and get the place. and you can get 30 interviews and match for nothing
