hey all i know this might be a silly question but i was feeling a lil concerned and nothing makes a concerned doctor feel better than a good silly post on prep4usmle forums!!! i called to schedule my interviews today ( i have 2) and found out that the dates i wanted were all full and my options were early november and late january i thought november isnt a good idea since i wanna prepare for step 3 and i will be distracted there so i picked jan 19th, but for some reason i'm feeling concerened now cz i was hoping to get a prematch there i've actually done an observership there and they know me and i know from residents and doctors there that they offer prematchs and there's a strong chance that i'll get an a prematch offer if they are gonna offer any this year is there a way to know how many the ranked last year? from last year's statistics or something and does anyone think that an interview in late january is TOO LATE FOR PREMATCH? thanks all

No, January 19th isn't too early. Programs have until January 31 to make final match position changes. Good luck p.s. It's now 82.6 applications for every intern position in my program!!

If they really want you to be their resident January 19 is not late. The single way they can be 100% sure of that is by offering you a prematch even at the end of January. take care

if a program want to give someone prematch, whats the standard expected course? is it like candidate ask for it or hospital takes initiative by telling the candidate they they will offer prematch. ? and if they offer prematch, how do they do it. do they ask to sign at the same moment or they give some time frame. please bbb or anyone clarify.

There is no standard expected course. Some give, some don't. Some you have to ask the program, some you have to be offered.

I think is normal to ask the program about prematch, and I intend to do so. But it depends on "how you feel them". Also you can negotiate the period of time you should give them the answer.

does most programs give prematch in jan. does asking for prematch in jan has higher chances of prematch than asking for it in nov.

my 2 cents - if some prog has a limited number of prematches and they put them out in nov/dec itself - then it might be more difficult for u in jan but if they guy really likes u - he will bring heaven and earth together to keep u in his prog also u dont have option of nov so in the words of jim morrison - "let it roll" apurva

dr apurva. does that mean attending interview in jan instead of dec can be a cause of losing prematch spot.
