Dear bbb and everyone, I'd like to know how I should dress for the informal dinner with the residents/Chairman/PD the night before the interview. I'm not too comfy in skirt. What if I wear just a smart shirt and trousers? Will that be too formal? Thanks in advance!

Alenka, I think that the wedding ring would be a good idea. It shows that you're married and in a stable relationship which is a good thing. I once had a consultant that bleached his hair and wore bow ties, he was 55. I've got these really cool ties, cartoon characters(scooby doo, mickey mouse, smiley faces), I wouldn't wear those to an interview but then again I think it really depends on the program director. If he/she are uptight then they would prolly want you to display a more formal look but if they're modern and updated it might be differemt.

Wedding ring? Be for real! I couldn't tell you if applicants over the years were married or single???? It doesn't show that you are in a stable relationship or anything. Ties - show personality, but I don't know if you want to wear the cartoon ones until you are hired!

I feel really silly asking this. But I read somewhere that " never wear brown shoes.it doesnt match at all with anything you wear".That is why I am thinking.... I have a slate gray pant-suit ,what color shoes shall i wear? Will black look like a misfit???And if i wear flat (with only ~half inch heel...coz i have problem walking with heels..my ankles hurt a lot) shoes will it look okay. How much jewellery can I wear? thank you.

hey guys, at utmb austin, they specifically told me on the phone that business casual is accepted on interview day, and in the interview package they sent me after confiming my interview again they said that they want us to be as comfortable as possible and that suits are not required, what do you think i should wear? the suit or a real nice slacks, with blouse sweater thing?

Chand, Black shoes are fine with grey and brown shoes match brown/beige suits. Simple color matching nothing complex, shades that look alike go together. Moderation is the key to everything I think, don't wear too much jewelery and you should be fine. Im surprised no one asked about make up yet DiaHuq, I think that most of the people will be wearing suits although it isn't necessary. If you wear slacks compared to them you'll prolly feel underdressed but then again their policy was be as comfortable as possible so they're thinking that wearing a suit isn't. I'm rooting for a suit. bbb, I wouldnt wear one to an interview ever but I definitely would afterwards.

Im surprised no one asked about make up yet Let's not even go there!! Okay - we will. Ladies - you are interviewing for a profesisonal career. You aren't going to a wedding, a party or out dancing!! The make-up should be understated and not flashy.

Jaylike - your outer coat and gloves can be any style, shape, color, fabric that you like! Gloves - only when it's lower than 30. Good luck

bbb, my husband just fell in love with a suit and bought it for me, it's very nice(from kenneth cole) i guess since i was in the dumps since the cs exam(i was horrendous) he thought it might make me feel better and more comfortable, the jacket has only one button, and it's quite modern and has a cutting edge feel to it. i told him it was not conservative enough for interviews and know he's kind of hurt. is it okay to wear something like that? http://www.kennethcole.com/scripts/shop/product.a...=

As long as your hair is neat and clean, it's not going to matter.

is a double breasted jacket ok for a suit? I'd have to keep the buttons closed all the time! would that be ok?

"... i do love it, when i wear it i feel like i can take anyone one..." The suit is lovely but pants looks kind of tight, at least on the photo. My friend, who is a resident, strongly suggested against tight clothes with a lot of elastane in the fabric. The look is super but such fabric prohibited by the dress code of her program, for example. Some programs do not care much, some do. You do not have to look dull but I would think of something that undoubtly appropriate. Good luck.

lol, i know, the pants are sized up one, it's not tight, but it has lycra in it so it does stretch, i usually go a size up on suit pants anyway so i can move around in them more, but the jacket is my normal size. and it's not really that tight, i think websites always try to make the models look sexier.
