This one is so important!! Wear clothes that fit you - if it's too big, have it altered. Nothing looks worse than if it appears that you borrowed the clothes/shoes that you were wearing.

is it true that you must wear a suit? I bought a dark brown pants suit, to personalize it can i wear a scarve or brooch?

  #4

for guys, will a formal shirt and trousers with a decent tie do? or should one always wear a suit? it might be too cold by the time the interviews start, so i guess a suit should become necessary....any suggestions...

DiaHuq - sounds like a reasonable plan to mewink

Drvic - 99% of the guys that interview have a suit (pants and jacket) on. Of course there was the one in jeans who said that his luggage was lost............shocked (he still interviewed well - he was more upset that my PD)

Yeah a suit should be best to show that you are uptight, wanna set a good example and etc... But have you ever thought that candidates should be judged regardless of what they wear ?

Why are jeans and a T not approriate ?

But have you ever thought that candidates should be judged regardless of what they were

That would mean that the world was a perfect place - that no one was judged by what they wore, how they smelled, what personal or political beliefs they held, what gods they worshipped, what they smoked or how much they weighed.

We all know just how quickly that is going happen.shaking head

it's the same at most job interviews, it shows that you are not sloppy and you respect the importance of and care enough about the position to take the time and care to dress well. I don't think you have to dress expensively, it just has to fit well, and look put together. Don't look sloppy and make sure your nails are clean.wink. I have never worn a suit before and i had the same arguments you did mig but my amg friends and my husband put an end to it. I hate looking like a clone, all thru high school i fought the clones at our school, Individuality means a lot to me.

atleast you guys don't have to wear heels....i know for a fact that i'm not going to wear a skirt suit in the cold, even though i heard it was preferred, long pants for me!!!

DiaHug - wear pants! If your suit has trousers with it - why not?? I see it every year.

Your individuality will come out in the color of blouse, the jewelry that you wear, the style that you project, and it will shine as soon as you speak.

Heels - ggggggggrrrrrrr - we won't even go there......But do wear heels that you can walk in!!

Hi bbb,

I know i may sound stupid grinbut can u suggest what colour is best .I know it should be conservative, can I wear black??

  #12

I mean for a women suitsticking out tongue

  #13

Black, grey, blue, brown, dark green, burgandy - they will all work!

Sensible shoes - not too high (there will be a tour and that means walking), not too trendy, no "sticky" heels,

okie, in the colder climates i was thinking of wearing a nice turtleneck under the suit and in the warmer ones is it okay to wear a scoop neck cotton tshirt kinda thing (like the ones they have in Banana Republic)? or do we have to wear buttondown shirts?

i guess bbb meant no stick thin pencil heels that your feet will hate you for!!!!

a friend told me not to wear heels greater than 2 inches at the max. and easy spirit, naturalizer and ann taylor have comfortable shoes, in fact pumps at ann taylor loft are 69$ and with an extra 25% off and have extra cushioning for comfort.

i like this shopping part i just pray i get a chance to wear the stuff dangit....

Dev - Under your jacket, you can wear anything that you want. Jewelry? I'm all for jewelry as it shows individuality and artistic license!! Do you mean, like a shell or a tank - sure you can wear it.

DiaHug - DSW is also another good place for shoes if they are in your area. I just got dress Rockports for $29!! And they are comfortable heels (I didn't think such a thing existed!) Turtlenecks are good and any cotton shirt, scoop or V-neck would work.

And you will have a chance to wear it.wink

Nothing wrong with a shoe addiction. I have promised to get rid of one pair when I bring a new pair in the house. I have way too many shoes.

But it's a good thing.....grin

wow... this thread is flourishing.. anyways... the world still judges us by how we look, I had a friend who wore a suit during his VISA interview... while all the rest wore long sleeved shirts with ties... and the weather in my country is really hot mind you... but he was the only one given the VISA in his line... so why not put everything in your favor?

Also, in the USA, and even in Psychiatry books, an unadorned face of a woman can be a sign of depression... hehe, so a little makeup is ok...
