anyOne to answer the PATHOPHYSIOLOGY of clubbing? with references.

The hypoxia stimulates blood vessel formation via gene expression, soft tissue deposition, and interstitial edema causing the bulbous enlargement. Also i believe ferritin or ferric ions have a role in the genesis. The actually cause in unknown, but there may be an unknown humoral substance involved.

This article blames megakaryocytes. I also heard chronic PO2 changes at the level of the nailbed were to blame, and in cirrhosis mere lung compression was enough to cause these changes, thus leading to clubbing.

clubbing is probably caused by hypervascularity and opening of anastomotic channels in the nail bed due chronic hypoxic conditions andthe grades of clubbing are due severity of chronic hypoxic conditions
