Hi Dr Blue! The requirement for psych rotation is actually 6 weeks (at 32 hours per week). But I have noticed that the case differs from one analyst to the other as to how much slack they will be willing to give you. Some of my batchmates who applied for the CA letter after I did had no difficulty getting it and breezed through the process without any deficiencies at all. I guess I was the pioneer so things were tougher for me. No internship does not count. Only the clerkship clinical rotations count. But like I said, some license analyst will consider it, especially if you went to one of the list of accredited internship hospitals in the Phils (dont ask me for the list, I didnt ask for it either) The only way you will be able to contact the MBC is after you have submitted your application and they have finished the initial review of your case. During that time you will receive a letter from them stating whatever deficiency you have. This letter will also have the name of the person assigned to your case, you license analyst, and his/her contact number. You will communicate with him/her directly about any question you might have regarding your case. Ultimately, he/she will decide if your clerkship training was sufficient/satisfactory to meet CA standards. For advise regarding the CA letter, just ask your friendly neighborhood intern who has gone through the process herself (oh, thaat would be me! ) Feel free to ask if you clarifications (although I will be incommunicado in the middle of Sulu Sea for the next 5 days) Mty best advise is to go to the website http://medbd.ca.gov and download the application information/materials they have for IMGs. Everything you need to know about the application process will be there. Good luck!

I think this piece of information that I posted in another forum would be helpful Dr Blue: California Law BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONS CODE about the clerkship number of weeks required www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?codesection=bpc&codebody=2089 .5&a mp;a mp;hits (b) Instruction in the clinical courses shall total a minimum of 72 weeks in length. (c) Instruction in the core clinical courses of surgery, medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry shall total a minimum of 40 weeks in length with a minimum of eight weeks instruction in surgery, eight weeks in medicine, six weeks in pediatrics, six weeks in obstetrics and gynecology, a minimum of four weeks in family medicine, and four weeks in psychiatry. According to MBC, 1 week is equivalent to 32 hours. This is the average workweek of medical students in the US. So it is possible that even with 1 yr intership/clerkship, you have accumulated more than the required number of hours if your workweek is more than 32 hrs per week. They also require a certain number of hours for electives rotation. If for any reason you do not meet these number of hours, you will be sent a SPECIAL PTAL/ CA Letter stating that you have a deficiency in so-and-so areas. You need to complete these deficiencies and submit proof or certificate of completion before they will give you a FINAL PTAL/CA letter.

Hi, I'm a Philippine med graduate and am planning to take USMLE soon. But i still have not gone through the "process" of fixing my papers. What is the first thing I should do? I already have a green card and is based in NY. Can anybody tell me the first step that I should take? Thanks.
