Yesterday I called 916-263-2382 and left my name, DOB, phone # and question about what I should do next. I just got a call back telling me that it may take around 45 days for initial processing, that means in my case, they will let me know what to do by late May or early June. Hope that all required document from my school reach them on time.

FYI, a friend of mine who already has ECFMG certificate [she has all the USMLE scores with her by the time she applied for PTAL] got her PTAL just 2 weeks after completing her application, which is around 2 months in total (starting from sending Form Lx, transcript, finger print...). Good job, right? Just give them all they need!

Dear all,

Just got a letter from CA board, which says:

...
"Dear Applicant:

This is to inform you of the current status of your application for a PTAL.

Based on a review of your application and supporting documents, it will be necessary for you to submit the following item(s) so we may further process your application:

- Examination and Board Action History Report (EBHAR) received directly from the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) documenting passage of USMLE Steps 1 and Steps 2CK. The FSMB may be reached directly by telephone at (800) 876-5396 or on their website at www.fsmb.org

Upon receipt and review of the above documents, a PTAL will be issue."
...

My Step 2CK score won't be available until Nov. Hope that I can use this letter in place of PTAL on ERAS. Any idea?

One more thing, I used this service for translation of my Medical Diploma
http://www.avidtrans.net
They only gave me back Photocopy of the translation, telling me that it would work. So far no feedback from ECFMG, but CA board requests the "Original official English translation". I will have to request that translation agency for the original one. sad

Anyway, the whole procedure so far is OK, i think. I will post my final result when I get my PTAL.

The same as mine, I had to send my diploma back to my country for translation then it was sent directly from my school.

I submitted my application in August last year and has just requested to send USMLE transcripts 2 days ago, still waiting for their notice.

hello everyone, i am trying to deal with PTAL these days , nightmaresmiling face
i have a few questions to ask, hope anybody who has any idea will share with me
1: instruction page 6: instruction in the clinical courses shall total a minimum of 72 weeks in length.
question: 72 weeks =lecture in classroom
or =clerkship
or = lecture in classroom + clerkship
this instruction is for form L 5, so i assume those hours just mean clerkship??

2: any IMG or chinese IMG knows what courses in china = family medicine?? some pp say prevented medicine. any other idea???

3: my clerkship sometimes mix at the same week. for example: for the whole week, in the morning , we will do internal; in the afternoon we will do surgery . so , do i count my int or surgery as 0.5 week or 1 week??

4: L5 form: when i write down my rotation in internal med, do i need to break down into cardiac 2 weeks, gastrointestinal 2 weeks , respiratory 2 weeks, bla bla bal , or i simply add them up and put internal med: 8 weelks?

5: as for my school , do they only need to mail form L 2 and L 5 to board ?and as for the others files i need to send to the boards except my score . is it correct?

6: i am confused of form L 6. during my clerkship, i did rotate in 2 different hospitals. one is affliated hospital of my school, another one is also teaching hospital where my school always send students there to rotate. they are in same province. in my case, do i need to fill L 6?

hehe, i know i ask too many qs and i should call them..which i did..but no reply yet....so i wish i could get some help here....any reply will be appreciated.

permission to work from the Department of Homeland Security can get a Social Security number.

If you are lawfully in the United States but do not have permission to work, you are eligible for a Social Security number only if the law requires you to provide a Social Security number to get a federal benefit or state general assistance benefit that you are otherwise qualified for. For more information about applying for a number, see Documents You Need for a Social Security Card.

Lawfully admitted noncitizens can get many benefits and services without a Social Security number. You do not need a number to get a driver's license, register for school, obtain private health insurance, or to apply for school lunch programs or subsidized housing. Although many companies such as banks and credit companies may ask for your Social Security number, you are not required to provide one. Ask if they can identify you in some other way. If a service provider insists that you provide a Social Security number, it may help to prove that you cannot get one by showing the service provider a copy of Social Security Numbers For Noncitizens (Publication No. 05-10096).

If you need a number for tax purposes and you are not authorized to work in the U.S., you can apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Visit IRS in person or call the IRS toll-free number, 1-800-TAXFORM (1-800-829-3676), and request Form W-7, Application For An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

am processing my PTAL too,
my processing agent said the no of hrs a week is 32 if u do more than that we dont count it,we r only concerned if they r not less than the minimum we demand.
but guys m prob is that my no. of hrs in clinical training on my medical transcript does not match the no. of hrs of cinical rotations.
i am going to fill up the forms and keep updated.
