I am an IMG(graduated April,2004) from India with scores of 99 in my both steps, and am ECFMG certified. I have some clinical experiece in India only (No USCE,no US LORs) and am applying for only Internal Medicine.....I need a H1b VISA and so I need to pass my step 3 as soon as possible. I wanted to know if step 3 scores play a significant role in obtaining a good residency and later on in a fellowship(Cardiology or GI) or if I just need to pass it(I can rush it if I just need to pass). And what is the date by which I need to write my step 3 so that I still stand a chance of matching with a good program. Also may I know the hospital you work for and if it would consider a candidate like me Thank You for your valuable time....n I really appreciate your help.

Of course you realize tha many, many fellowships will not sponsor your H1b visa, correct? As your your step 3 results, different hospitals are going to have different dates for that requirement. Good luck

wow....that was real fast ...Thank you for the information. Guess I asked my query the wrong way....Do fellowship programs look at step 3 scores or is it just pass or fail that really matters... And once again thank you for your help to IMGs like me BBB....

Sorry, unknown answer as I don't work for a fellowship program. I would check with my friend in GI, but she has been working there for about 2 weeks and won't know the answer.
