i agree, how the %&# can we have 6-12 months of US clinical experience??. We are IMGs, we donīt live there. Thatīs RACISM. Thus, many guys have to do a preliminary year to be able to apply to those programs . I think thatīs a stupid request of those hospitals. Because there are a lot of IMGs with more clinical experience than the US seniors or graduates. Anyway.

Hi Guys, I know it is quite annoying that they say 6 mts us exp, they could always say img's donot apply and thats it we wont, however i will not amount that to racism, after all if they prefer their own graduates that is their prefrence either based on their experience or based on mix of local population, and they have every right to offer positions to their own grads before they offer any position to us. I know it is quite disheartening to say the least to get rejections despite good scores, but let us view it this way that programmes loose out on good residents if they prefer someone with lower scores just because they r locals. Would we say it is racism if an us grads come to our countries and they r preferred over our own grads? because their creds and scores r good?. Well something to think about,it is only my though thats it.

That is a reasonable assessment of the situation. Remember also that they trust the clinical part of their residents more than us, because they know how American students are taught in America, but there is no way they can know how is your medical school doing there.. I am a victim too of that.. But to be honest, I don't feel it like injustice, but still, I feel that many IMGs are better than many AMGs who are ranked higher. And the hospital does lose sometimes, but they like playing it safe. You can't blame them for that..

Unfortunately thatīs it. And that kind of preference for local medical graduates can be the same in all countries, maybe. But i canīt deny i feel angry when i see: IMGs are welcome, but we do NOT sponsor visas, and you need X months of US clinical experience. Or something similar to it. But the thing is that even knowing this we want to study in USA, so thereīs nothing to do but keep going and doing our best.

Hi, i just want to comment on this, am an IMG too but I think its okay that some programs dont want to take IMG's or prefer AMG's, you have to see it from their point of view too. I mean, we are lucky they are nice enough to have opened the doors for foreign grads to come and practice in their country with all the privilages, where can u get that? Europe? Canada? you know, US is the most open and free place and they give so many opportunities to foreigners, the least we can be is thankful. AMG's get out of medical school with loans over 100's of thousands of dollars, its only fair the best programs prefer them, lets not be greedy here. This place offers us so much and we have to acknowledge that, not get angry a few programs, and i say that again, a few from all the many that take IMG's, dont take IMG's.
