What does this mean? I have a lor from my pathology teacher in medical school , an a second one from the director of the IM department where i did my clerkship IM rotation (He is also an attending IM physician) .... are these valid medical faculty LOR? or they have to be only from teachers at medical school? my question may be stupid but i need to know before i asign them to the specific programs. thanks for any help

Hi Lorena - Remember, no such thing as a stupid question! =) But to answer your question, I believe either will do. However, since these letters are for residency, programs will almost definitely prefer letters from clinical rotations. They want to see how we operate on the floors, not so much how we operate in class. Also, FYI, all applicants I know have strictly used rec's from rotations. DB

http://www.facs.org/residencysearch/position/posi... The American College of Surgeons (ACS) "red book" - don't know if you are interested in surgery (like me!), but there is a section on letters of recommendation on this webpage that might be worth checking out, at least for some perspective.

I have a silly question to ask. I got one of my LOR ( sent to me). However, I heard it is better we waive the right to read it, can anyone tell me whether it matters? thanks
