this is a question to all those who've given the exam recently (esp IMGs). how many days before the exam should one preferably reach US? people have been telling me that for IMGs it may take time to acclimatise to the place and get over the jet lag and things....so just wanted to know the opinion of the experienced ones..i'm taking my exam in Chicago actually, my travel schedule is really tight coz i can't take too much leave from the hospital where i'm working at present. so i'm just reaching there roughly 2 days before the exam...is that ok? can't do much about it now coz its gonna be next to impossible to reschedule considering the heavy booking of all dates. any suggestions to help acclimatise and reduce the overall stress that is likely to be associated with the exam...

It deppends really on where you come from... Lets say you come from a place in the far west, in regards to Jet lag, just 1 day or 2 is fine... The most important thing is to remember that american culture, is quite different from our own... I still notice big differences, even though I have been living here for several years. If you prepared your exam, I assure you that the adrenaline rush you feel once you step in front of that door will completely eliminate any type of jet lag effect. BTW took my exam 5 weeks ago in ATL Gabriel Ruiz, MD

Hi drvic, I'm not sure where you will be travelling from. My experience is travelling from India. What helps is Sleep a lot in the flight. That really helps. Once you land in US don't give in to the feeling of sleepiness in the afternoon. For people from India it normally happens around 4pm and at night you cannot sleep because your body is on India time.. Definitely go to bed early around 9pm or so.. Best of luck

hey docbug thanks for yur suggestions. i'll be travelling from india, New Delhi to be more specific. i'll do just that, only if the adrenaline surge lets me sleep. i have travelled abroad before but they were relatively short duration flights to South East Asian destinations...let's see anything else lemme know. thanks
