sure it helps, some residency programs say they donīt sponsor any visa (neither H1B nor J1), so if you need to be US resident or citizen. It really helps. I need a J1 visa.

i guess itīs a "package", you know, all the stuff (scores, first attempt, research, U.S. clinical experience, visa, interview, etc.). But i think they would prefer a green card holder, itīs a bonus. Anyway dr_singh246: if you have a green card: you are lucky if you donīt have one (i think you donīt have it, like me): we canīt do anything for this match about it, you know that it takes years the process of the citizenship.

5 rejections, I think to get rejections is nicer than to get ignoring .. at least they thank you for your interest in their program . There are several known elements of their priorities of choosing applicants and not only our usmle marks. GL to all of us.

[quote]they should have the courtesy to mail and let us know what happened,,,.... [quote] I'll speak for the defense of the programs. Maybe they don't want to reject everyone until they know that for certain that the interviews will fill. They may not be interviewing until later. Maybe they don't want the 30-60 (300-600) emails asking why a candidate was rejected.... Back in the old days when paper applications were accepted, rejections were hardly ever sent. Good luck, all

Thanks bbb. Do you know if it's true that programs want to see dean's letter on 11/1 in order to send out second batch of invitations? Thanks a lot.

Dear BBB, from your point of view u might be correct from a students point of view where we invest so much time, money ,effort and above all the "stress" atleast we expect the programs do send a reply bck.It might be that yup they are waiting for the interviews to fill up and if left blank only then they will send ..hmm but what about the programms where we call up and they say we are rejected and if asked do we still have a chance and they reply"no"!!! And i believe that when they have set a minimum criteria for each programm like step 1 85 and above and we fulfill the criteria and still not given a reason why we are rejected isnt that bad on the part of the programs...if they would have set a minimum of 90 in step like in some programs and i apply and rejected thats agrreable.. but otherwise dont you think atleast a courtesy mail should be given.???

The question is when should the courtesy email be sent. That's the question that has no answer. When I do send a "rejection", I get emails and emails asking me how to strengthen their application - I can't answer that. That's one reason why I don't like to send them (but I do). How do I answer to someone who have 99/98 that they aren't being offered an interview and they want to know why???? It's a mystery of life.
