hi i am primarily a candidate for ob gyn. however since it is a difficult branch to get into for imgs i am thinking of applying to FP as a back up. my question is will either PD come to know that i have applied at both programs in the same hospital ?will this lead to a bad impression and hamper my chances at both programs? or is there no way they cud know about it ? please respond.

They generally do NOT know about your applications to the same specialty in the same hospital. You could be unlucky, particularly in smaller hospitals. CGR

dont apply to the same hospital....programs which research candidates they want to prematch, will get some extra info on them. out program will always check out candidates so that they have not applied to completely diff fields....that is just a wrong thing and tells u that the person is not a serious surgery or whatever candidate. so dont!

It happens every year - it really isn't a big deal as it's known that some applicants want a residency - not a specific residency.

Anyone in this year's match applying to 2 specialties in 1 hospital? I'm done looking up programs in 1 speciality, i've yet to start on the other specialty. Still on the fence about applying to 2 specialties in 1 hospital. Any feedback from other members regarding this issue?

Hi, I just think we should not worry so much about so many different opinions. Some of them are just myths. As far as I know, bbb is residency director (correct me on this ;-)) and the opinion is very valuable. I´m going to apply to 3 different specialties, only hoping that I can get a residency in my favourite one! It´s more like a backup plan. I think most of the residency coordinators and program directors would understand why we as IMGs do that a lot. Believe me, it´s very common. If you would be asked about this, you could still say that your favourite specialty is absolutely the one that your heart beats for Now, let´s go with our guts and apply to whatever we want
