dear bbb or anyone else who knows...

hope you are well. i have started applying to programs. on eras when you chose to apply to a program there is a check box which one can tick for prelominary position and another for categorical. it says tick atleast one. does that mean we can tick both? i mean can we apply to a program selecting both categorical and prelim position? would it reflect badly?

please respond cause i don't want to blunder while applying and missing a possible chance.

thanks in advance for replying.

No, you cannot check both options. Preliminary is one year program while catagorical is 03 years. You have to choose one of the two options

If you really want to get into a particular program, one program's website said to apply to both positions and rank both. If you don't get into the categorical but match into the preliminary then they consider you in a higher position for next year to match into a categorical pgy2

well that depends on what speciality you applying to

as an FMG most programs in surgery where i am applying advised me to apply both in prelim and catergorical to maximise my chances............i dunno about you........

but for int. medicine apply only to categorical................
