I have seen several questions about dementias and they put as an option the AGING dementia, what is exactly this?, does it exist?, how do you differentiate it? how do you know itīs an aging dementia and for example itīs not an Alzheimer? raised eyebrow

dementia is alwaays pathological.. it is said that dementia even at 95yrs of age is considerd pathological. although some forgetfulness related to age is common significant dementia always neeeds a workup.

so maybe that option was put up just to fill the options....rolling eyes

if it's things we all forget... like where we put the keys, or glasses... where we parked even... then that's normal aging. But if they forget where they live, forget the name of their wives.... or something even smaller like left the stove on... that's pathology. the first thing you should look for in a forgetful patient is what they are forgetting... if it's for years it's alzheimers or b12 even... but if it's short it could cj or picks... (not sure about picks, but i think that's in months) or some tumor.....

One more point. How do you differntiate between pseudodementia and dementia?

In pseudodementia the patient will COMPLAIN of memory loss.

In dementia the patient will not himself/ herself complain, he or she will usually be bought by someone else who says that the patient forgets things very easily.

Pseudodementia can be seen in depression or anxiety. You tend to forget things when you are anxious or sad!
