Hi,

What are advantages of prescribing penicillin to a patient, even though penicclin-resistant strains are regularly seen?

Thanks

penicillin is still the best for a lot of strept strains (pyogenes, viridance, pneumonia), ampicillin is still number 1 for Listeria, and has some activity against E. Coli...that's all i can remember off the top of my head..

Penicillins are cheapest and perhps safest antibiotics.

2ndly if u use modern antibiotics routinely, resistance may develop against them as well and in case of some virulent bacteria, u will not anything to treat.

i would say penicillins are cheap but not the safest-that's why the first shot of penicillin in your life should be given in doctors office plus you have to stay there for at least 30 min in case of allergic reaction development.
