Hi All, I am an M.B.B.S graduate form bangalore. During our internship psychiatry was optional, so i did not do my psychiatry postings, now i am in us and planning to take step 1, I would like to know if this psych training is necessary to join recedency, and if it is,. should it be from an institute recognised for such training or will it suffice if i show work experience, with a private psychiatrist in india pls if any one has more details on this could u let me know, it is very urgent. i Would also like to know if i have to submit my transcripts when i apply for step 1. pls....... help,[QUOTE]

I studied in coimbatore. Most the programs require min of 5 weeks psy posting, that combines undergrad study as well as crri posting. I had friends that had less and faced problems, but it was resovled. It has to be from the college which you got your degree from. Yes they do require trans when you apply for step 1.

hi I have graduated from india , punjab to be precise. We too had a optional psychiatry posting, but i didn't do it. I took TBC instead. Now i am in the USA and i have taken step1 but the ecfmg didn't ask me for my psychiatry posting. Another thing....Yes the ECFMg requires you to submit the Medical School Transcript, but that isn't a pre-requisite for taking up the steps. I have taken up step1 and i am still yet to submit it. Although i have got it from my medical school. The final medical school transcript is necessary for the ECFMG certification and not for the steps. But you will have to submit it sooner or later, so do it as early as possible. Good luck.
