Hello!

Probably am too late to be having second thoughts....!

-have finished MBBS from India.
-Cleared step 1 with 99.
-Step 2 on Oct 6.
-Interested in Internal Medicine + fellowship
-Intend to return to India.

But a lot of people are advising me that if I wish to settle in India, I must have some work experience here - like an Indian postgraduate degree. Although I have no intention of taking up a govt job, I still am questioning the entire purpose of a residency in the US....

But then if I finish my Postgraduation in India, I can only get some observership/externship in the US for further training coz the indian degree goes unrecognized in the US. So that's another problem.....one can't go "only" for a fellowship.....

Any advice/criticism/idea will be greatly appreciated.....

imgindian i just came to know thro this forum that with just a mbbs from india and U.S. residency ,fellowship some of the corporate hospitals will be more then wiliing to accept you!!!!

so thats one option but beleive me there are not many ppl who have done that especially come back from U.S. some other countries but not U.S maybe......grin

don't look back and keep your focus on your goal...

i've done my PG here and the so-called academic scene sucks...!!!...don't wanna go in for the specifics here....

for working in the private sector there are so many like me in a big city like Delhi that my MD degree is really no big deal. so i wish to go for fellowship and though i've got a positive response from a few hsopitals to whom i applied for a direct Fellowship (got some publications etc) but i'm not hopeful of getting a fellowship directly. so i'm prepared to go thru residency and then start my fellowship. still better than rotting here...

so don't think twice. you are on the right track. people will see your performance, your abilities and your skill, not the degrees on your wall. coz the latter won't save the patient's life, the former will...
