PHENOBARBS WAS A TILL RECENTLY THE DRUG OF CHOICE BUT ACCORDING TO A RECENT STUDY IT HAS MORE SIDEEFFECTS THEN SOME OF THE OTHER DRUGS.

THE ONLY RECOMMENDATION IS THAT AVOID POLYTHERAPY AND FOLLOW A MONOTHERAPY WITH THE DRUG THAT CAN BEST CONTROL THE SEIZURES.

COULDNT FIND A RECISE DRUG THOUGH!!!!!

ONE MORE QUESTION: WHAT HAS MgSO4 TO DO WITH SEIZURES. IS IT THE DRUG OF CHOICE???

thanksnod

MgSO4 is the drug of choice for pre-eclampsia to prevent seizure, it is also the DOC for tocolysis. however it is not FDA approved for tocolysis. Ritodrine is, but MgSO4 has fewer side effects!

always check deep tendon reflexes (slows) for early sign of mgso4 toxicity.

pls let me know if you have more info on phenobarb!
