 I have been with a terrible doubt these last days. Please tell me your opinion. I really need some light here.
Iīm an IMG, with an average score in step 1, i feel confused about applying for this match. I was thinking to apply for match 2007 so I havenīt done anything in the match, not yet. Now iīm wondering maybe itīs a good idea to do it this year. Iīll do my 2ck in october 6th (maybe somedays before). By the way, i know the result lasts 4 weeks approx., so will the program directors have my step 2ck score in november 6th approx??? in this case is it too late to get interviews ?. I know "first come first served". Maybe if program directors can have early my 2ck score i could have a chance.
Then i would have 2 choices:
-to apply to a regular hospital (not good, not bad) for a gral surgery residency program, and do the PGY1 there to earn some US clinical experience which i think itīs better than doing some months in investigation as a voluntary and clinical experience in my country and to get some good LORs from US physicians. Then try to get a PGY1 in other better hospital or try to get my PGY2 in a better hospital in the match 2007 for a surg residency program.
- to apply to an internal medicine program maybe (easier to get), do the PGY1 and then apply for a surgey residency program in match 2007 to a good hospital/program with that clinical experience in USA like a resident for 1 year.
-to apply to the best hospital i can get for gral surgery residency since now. But i donīt know if my results will be available for PDs, because with only my average score in step 1 is not enough to do it.

Another thing: thinking that my 2ck lasts 4 weeks approx and my 2cs lasts 3-4 months, and ECFMG certification like 2 months, i would be certificated on the last days of May, 2006, is that ok with the requirements of dates of the match???

u have to be ecfmg cert. by the match day thats march 15th or so.....

i dont think u can repeat a pgy1 - question of federal $$$ - u wud have to find a pgy2 spot - which is lot more difficult and unpublicised. and instead of all this - u have a gr8 chance to get in next yr.. also the pd u work for this yr might be malignant and write u such a gr8 reco letter, after which u might bcome persona non grata to a lotta progs..
i suggest u apply to the best prog in which u wanna go this yr if u have no prob with cash.. apply to them again next yr if u fail

thank you apurva, i really appreciate it, iīm not a Non grata person, itīs just that i donīt know what to do in this issues of the match and the residency and all that.
thank you, really. Just to confirm an info:
what is the deadline or time limit to be ECFMG certificated if i wanna participate in this match?? is it march 15th??

I am also taking CK on 10/6, then CS on 11/12. I read from ECFMG site that people take CS before 12/05 should have their certificate done in time for 2006 match.
