I posted this in another forum sorry for the re-posting.

I am expecting to get EAD next year as my wife will be applying for GC soon. But I am not sure whether I can get it before the residency starts. If I go applying but don't show-up, since I absolutely don't want a J-1, what do you think will happen to me? Will I be barred from participating matches in the future?

Why would you just not "show up"??? Wouldn't you be up front with any program director that you speak with? Or hold off a year until you get your EAD.

Check the NRMP web site for information about matching and not honoring the match for information.

i believe if u dont show up after matchin (forget the visa status - its betn u and the prog) - u get debarred for 3 yrs..

if prog refuses to take u after the match - they get probation..

pls correct me if im wrong

so b very very careful bout ur rank order list..just dont rank places u dont like and no chances of such scenarios arisin

I think if you are abroad and fail to acquire a VISA, you are waived of penelty. 'Cauz thing are completly not in your control. A whole lot of people can't start their residency because of this.

Thanks to bbb, I have decided to hold for one year or try to get an H-1 position. I am currently on H1b
