The drug allopurinol lowers the serum levels of uric acid, but raises the levels of xanthine and hypoxanthine. The beneficial effects for patients with gout are best explained by the fact that

A. xanthine and hypoxanthine are more water soluble than uric acid.

B. PRPP synthesis is regulated by the levels of ADP and GDP.

C. uric acid is not a precursor for synthesis of guanine.

D. hypoxanthine is a product of AMP degradation.

E. uric acid is more likely to precipitate at low

Answer must be A, since it is true and others have nothing to do with patient benefit.

I agree with answer- a -----If anything guanine is one of the precursors for uric acid (in reference tro letter-c)

Hypoxanthine----Xanthine---Uric Acid (Xanthine Oxidase is between these substrates)
