thanks for all your suggestions. About taking Vit b12 , will it cause increased sleepiness? Reason why im asking is i can't afford to be sleepy all the time. just your personal opinion abt it...thanks BTW Congratulations w/ your UDMNJ Surgery training. That's a wonderful hospital! I still remember Pathmark grocery store over there 11 yrs ago. The weather gets crazy there.. snow gets up to 12 feet so prepare your shovel & your thick coat. But it's a wonderful place... you'll get to see the spring blooms in Belleville by the winding road. If you're from NJ you know what Im talking abt. Good luck & again Congratulations..

congratulations, Shavil! Your notes are very inspiring. Enjoy your residency and I wish you the very best on the way to be a great surgeon. By the way, if it does not cost you too much time, could you please write us your experience about the preparation, interview etc. Especially I'd like to know the time to submit the application, ask for the reference letter, clinical experience in us!!! Thanks a lot! congrats again

congratulations sharvil on getting into the residency you wanted...well done and now its time to party and enjoy before you get busy again with your residency ... sharvil, whenever you login the next time can you pls tell me this- by what time I should submit my application forms for 2007's match? How important is usce for the match? what program would you recommend that provides this usce? are step 1 and step 2 ck scores only good enough if i plan to apply by 1st week of oct or should i delay my application and go with all 3 scores...Thanks again and wish you good luck for residency and a very good life. your post was really inspiring and it sums up what we all goo thru during our preparations for these exams.

hey motivated, aimhigh, achilles, thanks a lot. i will try to post my experiences on the interview trail. hello zinnia, welcome to the club. you can give the usmles in any order. however right now i would say concentrate on mbbs. once u finish final mbbs part 2, then you will be in a much better position to give the usmles. good luck.

thanks a zillion for replying.. advice taken.. congrats again.. few more questions how much do prof marks in our college matter?i scored only 64.5% in both 1st,2nd prof... and does doing pg from india before appearing in usmle opffer any advantage except security and work experience or its time waste since they prefer fresh graduates?

some programs dont prefer old grads zinnia. some will not mind. depends on program. if you "want" to come to usa, then just come here without wasting time in India. Coming here and doing things will be very very tough in the start, you will question yourself a 100 times, why did i do this when i was so comfortable in india?? but if you have the fire, you will do it. i think anything above 60% in mbbs is really good. i dont know about your marking system in your college.

Hey zinnia, just wanted to add that there s not much correlation between mbbs performance and usmle scores.... I ve got friends who were average students in mbbs but who got 99 in usmle... N some bright mbbs students didnt manage 99s( though they got 90+)

u r right wyvern, the entire approach is different, but nevertheless i would advise all to prepare well for their Final MBBS very well, esp medicine, pedia, psychi, ob-gyn and surgery as it will lay a very strong foundation for usmle. they will prepare u for the clinical vignette type of questions that is the most common format of questions in the exam.

for obgyn in mbbs i used dutta, the ones my seniors told me, i think it was pretty good and obgyn was not exactly my fav subject. now for step 2 i used kaplan for obgyn.

Oops I think the Enter button was pushed by mistake...lol anyways... I am on the road to prepare for Step 2, it will be my first US exam to start with. I'm done with Pediatrics once over and almost done with OB/GYN, but as during all these years I always enjoy going through my textbooks, and even though I'm quite a fast-reader it makes my progress a bit slow. I have a question for you. Do the outlines in the Kaplan Books really cover all the topics we need to know for the exam? I just want to make sure if I can trust in the outlines_ not the contents of each topic. You may say I am a bit anally retentive, but I aim for 99 just as you did. Wish you the best in all your future endeavours, and who knows we may meet each other in a not-too-much-distant future

hey surfer........i trust kaplan, those guys know their business and they are the best....but if u have been out of medical school for 3 years or more i guess it would be a good idea to brush through the text books....TRUST KAPLAN. good luck. Hey guggu..kaplan q bank is good material. i could only finish half of it though because i was short of time...if u have time its good stuff...but i think usmleworld is the best stuff around especially the explanations....must read them........as for hours of study....the more the better....but it depends entirely on how you want to go about it......good luck.

SHAVRIL's FIRST POST ON HOW TO SCORE 99 ON STEP 2 IS KEY!!!!! I saw this post and like many others used this as a motivator. I used to be a silent watcher on the forum. But after I received my score I thought I should post and tell everyone how important that confidence during the exam is!!!!! As I posted in the exam scores forum, I only got an 85/210 on step 1 last year. This year for step 2 I read for 6 weeks, but I also used the kaplan books as a guide thru rotations also. I would read all the 99's and say to myself thats such BS! No way all these people can get 99. 6 solid weeks of studyin, took the 3 week kaplan course in manhattan, studied nothing but kaplan books and did USMLE WORLD (USE IT AS A STUDY GUIDE!!!! DO SOME IN TUTOR MODE AND SOME IN TEST MODE!!!) I also did kaplan qbank (the new qbank is different from last years - Conrad fisher added more questions) and thats it! thats all i did. MY avg. were UW - 63.75%, kaplan qbank - 67%, NBME 2 - 510 (13 days before the exam). Night before exam I didn't sleep much and I was scared of my performance as I never do well on these kind of exams. So I slept about 3-4 hrs. Read shavril's post the night before about 3-4 times. FOLLOWED IT EXACTLY!!!! wrote positive little words for myself between each block, but also i took a break after each block! I get tierd quick :P. By the time last section came I was drained and I went a 25 seconds into the section with breaks. I wrote on my scrap paper. LAST 46 pts. for today doctor. NOTHIN' BELOW 250!!!! REAL EXAM - 246/99

sharvil, I have just finished my medical school and currently doing my internship. I am about to start preparing for step 2 CK, mind you its my first USMLE step. Do you think that Kaplan lecture notes books are enough(+ USMLEWORLD and KAPLAN QBANK)?
