why is transtracheal ventilation not suitable in case of CNS injuries?

  #2

B/c CNS injuries may lead to central causes of hypoventilation, eg. compression of the medulla. The patient requires mechanical ventilation b/c his/ own respiratory drive is impaired.

Transtracheal ventilation decreases the deadspace and makes the work of respiration easier eg COPD pts.
