A 17-year-old female presented with a malar rash that worsened on sun exposure. The patient also complains of joint stiffness and pain involving her ankles, wrists and knee joints. On further questioning, she described a feeling of weakness, anorexia and weight loss. She also gave a history of hematuria.

Lab investigations revealed anemia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia. Tests for antibodies are likely to reveal auto-antibodies against

A Small nuclear ribonucleoproteins
B DNA molecule
C Histones
D Ribosomal proteins
E Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors

Hmmm,
Looks like systemic lupus erithematosus. And most specific for it is antibodies to double-stranded DNA.
Ok, next specific is antibodies to ribonucleoprotein.
Is it A ?

I saw this one in exam master sample questions...

they want us to choose a - Small nuclear ribonucleoproteins. I honestly don't know why. The question sounds like they are looking for most sensitive a/b (most likely to be there), which would be ANA, and it's not on the list.
and if that's supposed to be most specific a/b, that would be anti ds dna as bonnie said. but that's listed as the wrong answer...

ritu, can you explain why a would be the right answer here?

you r right yulia
this is a question from exammaster the only reason I posted it coz I was unable to understand why A should be right??????????
Hope , somebody else can clarify our doubt  grin
