Hope u all having a nice time.
sorry for this late post of my CK experience, 'd been enjoying since 2 wks.
coming to the exam day..it was full of thrill and anxieties,a rush of blood and few nerves.here are few of my suggestions and advice,from my experience
The "one and only one way to crack CK"...is to keep u'self 'COOL', u ll bite off ur shoes if drag u'self into any kind of tension and panic.......remember even if u r not 100% sure of first few Qs, relax there will be 365 more....thats a big NO...
next tip is 'TAKE ONE AT A TIME', its a common fact which many people face,thinking about previous Q, next Q and next Block....please please focus u'self to the Q u r dealing with.
from my experience.."TIME management should not be a PROBLEM" ,u will find 2-3 mins extra per block,which i guess should be enough to revise the critical ones... DONT LOOK AT THE TIMER AFTER EVERY Qs...thats a bad habit of many examinees..was of mine too.
Next tips....DON WASTE TIME ON HARDER Qs--rather "Spend a bit extra on Qs which u think is damn EASY",Uhh...It might sound cheeky but its true, we miss a great deal while anwering these common and basic stuffs..think about it.
coming to the REAL EXAM...i don know what to say. though i cant recall each n every Q, i can give u a broad idea of topics which were stressed on me.
Many from GIT and GU,say 40%, paeds-20%, psych,OB,Sx-10% each,rest were miscellaneous consistin of Anatomy,genetics,patho,pharmac,Psm.
One more advice i 'd like to give u is-"TRY TO SCRAPE THROUGH FEW HOT TOPICS OF PHARMAC AND PATHOLOGY''
in Pharmac- "Drug interactions and side effects of few common drugs"
In patho-"Know about common gross and histological slides of common diseases"
well,rest is luck,luck n luck.
coming to the review materials,i covered following materials
KAPLAN lecture notes+Kaplan vedio tapes- I think together it is a wonderful combination,which helped me a lot. before the exam i had been through few reviews that kaplan vedios are not worth of spending..but i ll say "WITHOU KAP VID U R MISSING AROUND 30% of FACTS" so try to collect the DVDs if u can,i can bet it ll improve ur score.
UCV series of 9 books for fast review.
BLUEPRINTs OBGYN and PEDS too good..covers those topics which is overlooked in KAP.
when it comes to practising Qs... i did
KAP Q BANK,Q BOOK
NMS REVIEW
ADAM BROCHERTS Q BANK
USMLE WORLD ONLINE Qs.....I 'd RATE IT 'THE BEST 'cheap and easy to access. i got 68% score.
SWATRZs Pretest SURGERY..nice book
PRETEST-MED/PEDS
i got my confidence from solving as many Qs as i could..say around 10,000. i ll advice u guys to practice a lot..spend more time doing Qs rather revising kaplan note 6-7 times.
Finaly, wish u all GREAT LUCK for the upcoming exam,i 'd be happy to clarify any of ur doubts regarding the preparation or exam..fell free to ask.

m givin my exam on 21st oct time is less still doin my first readin i don have the comp videos n the time too so if u cud tell me wat i must listen to which r gd n must listen,also r bp for paeds n obgy nec coz its 2 much n also u said u had anat questions can u tell wat kind coz i have forgotten all the anat i had done for step1 n also wat is to be read for ophthal,ent,radio,psm is it covered in the videos n also did u see patho,dermat xrays etc i f yes fm where

First wish u a great luck for ur exam,still u have more than 45 days in ur hand,i ll suggest u to read around 8-10 hrs a day,that s'd be sufficient enuf.Coming to KAP vedio,i think INFECTIOUS DISEASE,CVS by 'Dr Conrad Fischer and OBG by 'Dr Kala' is must watch topic,rest u can rush through.
BP notes wont help u at this time,bcoz u cant revise them in time..so i 'd advise u to focus on KAP notes.
I had few anat Qs,mainly related to CNS-Spinal cord roots,trunks,devisions,branches. few from CVS-coronary artery branches and area supplied,2 from osteology-Ossifying centre and vertibral arche. those were weird..i don think anyone 'd able to crack them unless its in ur head.
i had 3-4 Qs from radio,which were easy enuf to answer,straight forward ones. for
PATHO- saw few slides from WEBPATH,USMLEWEB.COm
RADIO-ROENTGEN,USMLEWEB.COM
DERMAT- First AIDS for CK..(excellent review)
i didnt have to face many from ENT,OPHTH--lucky !!!! but don neglect them...see few FUNDUS PICTURES atleast HEPERTENSIVE and DIABETIC RETINOPATHY,cataract.
I guess that s'd help u a bit..

PSM--is a high yield topic,expect around 25-30.mug up those calculations/formulas.. and research study analysis...they love to ask those..mainly INTERPRETATION OF REASEARCH STUDIES.

thanks for an elaborate review of your exam. The amount of study and number of qz u have done ...inshallah ull score preety highly and honestly after all this work u deserve it.
One lill query is with those drug interactions etc.... is the FA for step1 pharma review recommended? or should v just concentrate on wats at hand in kap notes.

Kaplan notes & usmle world is the best. Although i can't finish 4 times, i did2 times.Some Q in real exam is exactly same as UW & I'm amazing. TIME MANAGEMENT is key. All Q r too long. 1/2 has >8 choice. Biostat, ethics are ok with kaplan book. Rescent Mgment about HIV, same as UW.many pathophisiology like why CF has that feature, what is etiology of psoriasis, why chf pt got effusion.
by the way, i just finish ck this week.

yes, FRED Software. They remind to lock screen within 30 seconds if I thought too long, I think after 2 minutes, but not sure. i have to move my mouse. They also remind me 2 minutes before finishing 1 block. These feactures r new, not in my step1. It's good cos I used to think long.

yes even i liked the fact that they were giving a warning if i sat there thinking too much..and if i remember it happened atleast once a block or more...reflects on my time managing capacity..lol
yes i too liked FRED software for certain things ...but hopefully no score delays

Hi all,
I recently cleared step 1, now I am all set to start step 2, nut the only hurdle is I am not sure how to start. I am not sure whether First AID is good enough, also what about CMDT? I completed MBBS 3-4 YRS ago and it feels like starting all over again.
I would really appreciate any guidance. Also Rakshmi...........I hope you cracked Step2!!

dear sodhdx,
try to listen kaplan lectures eslpy medicine& pead. Depend on how much u can cope , it should finish within 11/2 month. study mcq inbetween & dr revision. Read kaplan book 2-3 times. Usmle World is v good . It give u exam idea. try to do simulated test atleast2-3 times b4 exam to prepare for exhaustion. I study for 3 months with that & got 97. good luck
