i would like to share something that really helped me to go through the stressfull period of usmle step 1 step 2 and CS with relative ease.I was practising the relaxation technique of the "art of living" which took min 10 min to max 20 min which helped me in many ways than i can tell.[step 1 95]

Hi,

I am also an old graduate 1995.I am planning to start studying again.I took step 1 in 2000 but failed...I went to do a masters(MPH) and By God's grace had 2 kids along the line( I am really thankful). Now I am back.I feel I can handle step 2 better as a start up person. What do you advice. If I need to review some step 1 first what area should i concentrate on.?I need candid advise.

Thanks

I am 1994 graduate and an average student. If you feel step 2 is better for you then you might want to look into pathology. What i did when i studied kaplan medicine notes for step 2 is i went through golian notes as well. You dont need to read it in detail though [as you will need for step 1].But your main focus needs to be kaplan notes and usmle world qbank.Try to to get to the qbank early as it is better if you can do it twice,or if you are going to do it once then you should take down notes, which you can revise when you do kaplan.I did the same in step 1 with kaplan q bank.you can do kaplan q bank as well but i feel usmle world is a must and also gives you an better idea of how you will fare in the real exam.Though i studied cmdt as well, I feel it is not needed to do well in the exam.Hope this helps.

Yes, I am from India, for details of the technique you can visit [size="-1"]www.artofliving.org[/siz e].It is a breathing exercise.Believe me,I was going through a difficult phase myself and I couldnt have made it without the artofliving. You will get the required details from the website,if you have any further queries I will be glad to help.

About the breathing exercise you have to join the basic course,if you have problems getting the local contact I can find out and let you know, however i will need your state and country.
My last days of preparation didnt go as planned as i was moving.I planned to do med and peds in the last 10 days but managed to read only med.I had read kaplan 4 times,i also reviewed usmle world with kaplan when i read it the 4th time.I didnt read crush step2 so cant advice about it.I feel it is better to concetrate on med and peds in the last week as it constitutes the majority of questions. Also I read the relevant topics together eg:diabetes in med,ped obg together as it saves time and also helps integrate better. The only way I was confident of giving the exam was my usmle world scores.Good luck and hope this helps.

hi surya. Congratulations, topics like yours are very encouraging. nod

Could I ask you something? why did you decide to go to USA to study again and to work?? i mean, if you are an anesthesiologist in your country.

Coming to US was always a dream,I had visa problems so couldnt make it earlier.I never stopped trying though. Its been tough after coming here so doubts did arise whether I made the right choice, but i guess thats life.I keep reminding myself ''Dont take life too seriously, you are never going to get out of it alive".Also I would like to repeat that art of living has helped me to be enthusiastic and patient. Also private practice back home was not something that I enjoyed.

Would you tell us why you did not enjoy private practice???
