Doctor prhaps shouldn't shake hand with a manic patient, why?

another question, in a manic patient we will asses whether he is talkative or will we ask whether other people say about him that he is talkative. asking directly from him whether he is talkative doesnt seem appropriate. similarly how will ask/asses for distractibilty. (does it mean that for example talking with doctor patint is easily distracted by some third person's activity or something else. can anyone please differentiate by example between flight of ideas and loosening of associations. thank can u give an

manic pts may be disinhibited, thus best not to shake hands. they have increased energy and may be violent. ask an open ended question. a manic patient has pressured speech (ie they will talk a lot and will talk very fast) that way you can assess talkability. An informant is VERY important in taking a psychiatric history b/c a psychotic patient will not be very reliable and you have to assess his delusions, and behaviour. flight of ideas is racing from one topic to another that has no connection. in loosening of assosiation, there is a vague connection b/w the sentences.

the thing is-nowdays you are not supposed to shake hands with any patient-only if they want to.but i'd say-definately don't shake hands with manic patient.
