HELLO! My name is Ivan from the Dominican Republic and I am a graduate from UASD (did my pre-med at UNPHU). Is anybody there from UASD, too ??.. Please someone let me know how the UASD physicians are doing in US residencies, or with the Steps !!.. I'm now studying for step 1..any suggestion from my peers? I have just created this topic for the physicians from the OLDEST university of all america (established in the year 1511 in Santo Domingo !!) so be supportive and contribute to it. Best wishes, y suerte a todos!.

grin , glad to see some one near is here, im from la uasd too, so i most know u, thanks very much for all ur advice but most of them i already know cause as u advice i consult whith someone advanced that me, she is already taken csa, im very glad for her. i have all the books u recomended but next time dont send anyone to the library of unibe send them to matias copias near uasd, they have all the lectures and the first aid, cause they copied from me, and there is less expensive.
one thing that i dont have is the group, i have friends that r studing but i dont find my self with them, and the ones i can study recently take his pasantia to bani, me in the other hand, im in robert reid cabral i have almost 6 moths of pasantia, and i admit thar if been carelees in taking this as a comitmend, and know that if i had a partner ill be easy, but i dont have one so i have to deal with it. im now studing physiolgi from the lectures, but im a little "desanimada", but i know im going to do it, next year im planing to take step one by the meadle of the year, them toefl, and to the end or begining of the other take step 2, thats the plan, about the money, well good things cost and my father is welling to give me all i need.
i like to know more about you, my email is kguerrero79 from the hotmail.
nice to meet u, keep on with the good work!!!

Ivan 53:

Saludos, My name is Gerardo and i graduate from the UCE in 1998. i took Step 1 2000 and i pass. After that i decide to take the Puerto Rico State License which i pass all of the 3 exam. I work for 2 year as a Emergency medicine physician in Puerto Rico and right at this moment i'm preparing to take usmle step 2. It's hard work going back and study again. So about your question ...the best chance that i think you going to have is to take all the 3 steps of the usmle as soon as posible. I'm telling you this because w/the experience that i have(Emergency medicine physician),having a license to practice medicine in a juridiction of the United Estate (Puerto Rico) , been a "USA Citizen" and have Step 1 pass w/a good score(236) .. i applied to a few residency program in NY, FL, Penn, NJ. I got the same response from most of the program in which they said that their preference were to me have the ECFMG Certification. I have two interviews next week in NY and probably one of them will accept me w/the condition that before i finish my first year of residency i will have to provide the ECFMG Certification.

Let me tell you one thing, because we the latinos are the highest growing minority population in the United Estates they( hospital, etc) need bilingual doctors. that's a fact...the mayority of the hospital that i applied they ask if i knew spanish.......good ....

bueno, if you have any Q's please reply........see ya!

Gerardo

Hey Guys,
My name is Natacha and I am currently a medical student in La UASD. I am in my 10th semester and was looking for information on the success rate of students who graduated from this university. I have heard that there are many of them who have passed there USMLEs (with good scores) and that have gotten residency in the U.S. Oh I forgot to mention, I am a USIMG (hopefully that helps).
I also what to know what strategies they used to study, what hospitals they ended up working at and are they satisfied with how things turned out?
If anyone could please provide me with these informations I would be truly greatful! Thank you!
You can contact me at yahoo, bachlorette_59@yahoo.com or on AIM, bachlorette59 (screen name).

Hi to all of you, I'm Dominican from the UASD too. I graduated in 2003 and after I did my pasantia there I came to US in 2004. I study English for one year, and I took my step 1 last weak after 8 months of study. I'm wating for the score to see if I have to move on to step 2 or study againg for step 1. I think like that because the exam was very deep.

I know doctors from Santo Domingo that are working here, and they have told me that when they started was difficult because the curture , the lenguaje , but a soon as you get acustom you're fine. So keep studying hard, we can do it.nod
