I am filling in the Myprofile section in my ERAS. I am an IMG and citizen of country X, a permanent resident of Canada currently applying from Canada. So how should I fill in the citizen ship and Visa type section?? Do I fill "foreign national" under the citizen ship section and "other" in the current visa section??? The form sounds like one has to be in the States to apply for residency. Another thing........Do I pick the J-1 and H-1B or the J-1 and H-1 out of the visa options that I would be doing my residency under?? Your reply will be appreciated.

I left my notes in the car. But I think currently you don't have citizenship would be your current citizenship. There is a spot for what visa you want for your residency visa. That's where the J or H would be listed. Good luck

Hello BBB, Thank you for your reply. But there is no option as the one you mentioned. The 6 options given under the citizenship section are: US citizen, permanent resident, conditional permanent resident, asylum/refugee/displaced person and foreign national. I am a permanent resident of canada and a citizen of Ethiopia. So, none of the first five options apply to me. The one that seems to apply is the option "foreign national". Am I right??? But if you pick this option(foreign national), I am expected to fill the "current visa" section too. But none of the the visas listed under the "current visa" section apply to me(because I am not in the US in the first place). These options listed under the "current visa" spot are B,F,H,J,O,TN,E2, diplomat service, immigrant, EAD=employmet authorization, and the last one simply says "other". Do I have to pick the option "other"?? I mean, how do people like me,applying from out side America, fill this section?? Yeah, the spot for what visa I need is another spot different from the one I mentioned above. It is the "expected visa" section. But, my question was which one of the H and J visas do I check. I don't mind what ever type of visa I finally get and I am going to check both the H and J. For the J type there are two options J1 and J2 and obviously I have checked J1. But of the H types, I don't know which one to pick. Is that the H1B or H2B??? Please take few seconds and reply, BBB and others too. Thanks!

Another question for you, BBB. How do the hospitals notify me if they decide to call me for an interview. I am in Canada and I have filled my home phone number, e-mail and mailing addres on the ERAS profile section. But I am afraid that the hospitals may use only the phone(and not the email or mailing addres) to call their candidates for an interview. I barely stay home and they might not be able to leave a message( My mom stays home and picks up the phone every time it calls but she can't speak English at all). Do you recommend me to get a cell phone and add my cell phone number to my profile on ERAS or will I be okey with the e mail?? If they invite by an email, I don't need to buy a cell phone, but, if it is only the telephone that is mostly used to call candidates, I will buy a cell phone so that I won't miss any interview chances for a silly reason. Thanks in advance for your coming reply. This must be the most silly question you ever got in this forum.

My third question, My medical school requires me to do a one year internship program before graduation. I did that one year internship, graduated and then I came to Canada a week after my graduation. I didn't work in my home country and I didn't have a Canadian clinical experience after I came here. Can I fill my internship experience on the CAF(ERAS Application) experiance page. Is internship considered experience or not?? I am uncomfortable to leave the "experience" page empty.

I don't know what you should fill in for your citizen ship. If you aren't a US Citizen, then one of them should fit you. Most programs that have access to ERAS use the email for notifying applicants. Since I email around the world, next door to Canada is no big deal! You internship is experience - why wouldn't it be?
