Hi BBB,
I really appreciate if you can answer my questions:
1. Can I apply for both Preliminary and categorical positions in the same program and in the same specialty?
2. Do I need to send two different Personal Statements if I am applying for both preliminary and categorical positions in the same program and in the same feild? Will one personal Statement is enough?
3. If I apply for two different specialties, for example: (FP and IM), (fp and obgyn) etc will the PD know about it?
Thanks a lot.

1. Yes

2. No - only if you want to, but not necessary

3. Only if the PD's get together (not going to happen), or if you mess up the Personal Statements (last year I received a lot of Surgery Personal Statements)

Categorical program. Which do you have more chances of getting? ???confused No clue.

Some residencies mandate that you need a preliminary year prior to something else - like Radiology - you need a certain number of months of IM prior to starting Radiology, or Derm or Neuro.

Hope this helps.
