Kaplan Qbank USMLE

I gave my step 1 on 17 august.

I was fully relaxed on the morning of my exam.

The exam was ok,it was uniformly setup.the level was also what a 3rd year medical student is supposed to know.

The visuals were also clear & easily made out.they usually followed a long q stem where the diagnosis could be made up on the basis of info given & the site affected in that disease identified on CT given.(HIGH YIELD NEUROANATOMY IS OF GREAT HELP IN THIS.even if u don’t see any other source & rely on this it is suffice.)

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I had taken breaks after each block.this is a personal choice, varies from person to person.but I think block after 1st block should be considered if u feel a bit paniky or anxious to get some time to collect urself up.

The resources I had used-

PATHOLOGY-high yield golgan(300 pages),audio of goljan(both these are amust do for step 1 I had a lot of q which could be answered based on these two)

Also my exam had a large chunck of q from this subject.

PHYSIO-Kaplan & brs( Kaplan is suffice)q were from endocrinology more.

Phama- lipincott(suffice) for q u can go in for Kaplan or katzung review .i had done katzung.fewer q in this subject.

Micro-jawetz review (suffice),the q at the end are very good.

Biochem-many q,could be answered with Kaplan.i had read lipincott but that was not required.also according to many students this subject can be tackled efficiently with Kaplan.i had spend a lot of time on lipincott which I realized could have been spend more efficiently by revising Kaplan one more time.i was confused in some of the q due to lack of revision.

Anatomy-I recommend HYS for all parts, this is tested in ref with patho & phsio too.

So hys series are a must & are really good .Neuro is more tested.

Behavior science-do both Kaplan & BRS this subject is a bit odd with regards to the q asked.one can never be sure of it.

Q sources

Kaplan q bank cd(65-75%)did all blocks except last two because of time strain

Kaplan stimulated-68%

Q book-65-75%(pharma not done due to lack of time.)

BSS is good for subject wise q did 100 q daily after my first revision.

Usmle cd-39,37.(3rd I couldn’t tally my answers due to some problem)

The tutorial in this should be done nicely to have more time for break on exam day.

Also I liked the stike off option to narrow down <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />ur choices in the exam.

Kaplan q are more representative of the exam.

I had spend four & half months on my prep.intially studying 8-10 hours per day & later 12.

I continued to follow the same schedule till the end as I don’t like many changes in my study schedule.it took along time for my first reading but it was very thorough so my second was a quicker one.i had read first aid side by side for each subject & then 4 days before the exam it is really a must do.

I wished I had time for my 3 reading.it could have certainly helped.

In general I would like to say that the exam is not that tough if one studies really thoroughly.don’t under estimate any subject they are all equally tested.

Don’t change ur study habits for this exam, though u may change ur outlook of study for this exam.that is try thinking about the pattern of q that can be asked from any topic studied.then also try linking various subjects.because q asked are not clear cut of any particular subject, they involve interlinked knowledge of many.

Goljan audios do a good job at this.also HY histo invoves an overview of all subjects.

Then practicing a lot of q is amust. Also go through the answers of right q also.it will pay dividends in the long run.

I would like to thank the memberes of this site who really helped in a couple of ways not only in clearing many topics &q but also in providing the morale for this exam.

Thanks a lot.

BEST WISHES TO ALL IN UR PREP & EXAM.

Thanks EVERYONE for ur good wishes.smiling face

to karusmle,

the detail we need to know about CNS is given adequately in goljan,if u find it insufficient u can go in for robins.

also q for bss cd are better to be done than the book, because u get the right feeling for the exam.but ofcourse they are outdated & one can do without them.q sources of kaplan are much more relevant & close to the exam.

GOOD LUCK.
