hi friends,

i have a question about lor's.....i want to go into psychiatry and iam confused whether doing an observership with a psychiatrist from my small home town here who is in private practice would be valuable cause we dont have teaching hospitals here....

and also, what is the chance of getting into psychaitry for an IMG with step 1 90 and step 2 pending results with no usce? any thoughts or input would be very helpful.THANKS! smiling face

Kavetha, they say observership does not mean as much as externship but it is still better than nothing. Is there any medically related research going on in that small town? Try to find something like this even if you will be cleaning vials... you will be able to fill in that line about research in the application formwink I think that with your good score on Step 1 you have a good chance anyway.nod

thanks so much CSobsessed!

i have heard that in psychiatry, they prefer some exposure to the same field rather than in gen.medicine or research (unless research is in psych).....is that true? and does it count for anything at all if u do an observership in a private clinic? i graduated in 2001 and after coming to the US in 2003,havent really done much except clear all the mle exams(hopefully,as my cs results r not in yet!).....iam concerned whether it is possible at all for an img with a 2 yr gap in cv and no usce to get into psych? sad thats really the only branch i want to work in....

any suggestions/inputs?thanks in advance! smiling face
