Well I know that this topic has been dealt with a few times already in this forum but if anyone would be kind enough to soothe my frenzied nerves,I'd surely be grateful. I need H1 for residency.I can apply for step 3 by ticking on any of the 12 states that allow it before postgraduation.Does that allow me to tick on CA now & then apply for residency in IL?What would be the long-term outcome of ticking CA ? Would it mean that i can only practice in CA after completing my residency ? Could anyone please make some sense out of it for me ? thanx.

Hi crabby! Sorry! Poor you! I read your note... I thought that you understood what they posted below your note (those are things related to what you ask, you know?). Ok. If I understand your questions (what is "to tick"?): YES. You can take your test wherever they accept your papers. YES. You can take the test in Cali and then apply with the results to a residency in IL and NOT. To take it in the state of XY does not mean that you will be able to obtain license only with the state of XY. Once you pass you apply to residency, once you finish residency you apply with all your documents no matter where did you get them to the licensing board in the state you want to work (providing you have all their requirements, which appart from boards and years of residency, are specific for every state) SO, Let's see again: -You can apply to do your test in ANY STATE. Go for Cali or wherever I think people say it is easier somewhere else. -The test is only one and valid for ALL the states, no matter Wherever you do it. (In example I applied to do my test with the State of California (because they told me that it was faster, but careful I had two years of residency already, they might not take papers without previous residency, check it all). I sent my papers from Pittsburgh (I was in a residency there) and actually now I will sit for the test where I moved...another State: Texas! -Once I have the test I can apply to a residency wherever I am accepted...(each State has different eligibility requirements, you must check with them, look in the FSMB page). -AFTER training I can apply for the final Physician's license, wherever they take my papers (it will vary the different requirement for every state) and it won't matter where physically I did my test, where did I trained or with which state board I signed for the test in the first place. Ok. Hope this is more clear, (If I am wrong, anyone, please correct me) Good luck!
