Hi, guys, I have received this news from ECFMG - they are closing test center in my country - I'm from Georgia (Former Soviet Union), Tbilisi. They said,

'We are writing to inform you that these locations will no longer offer USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) in 2006:

Georgia: Tblisi
Israel: Ramallah
Russian Federation: Moscow
Saudi Arabia: Dammam
Syria: Damascus
Ukraine: Kiev'

I'll take my step 1 in october 2005, but I wanted to take step 2 CK in 2006. Now only option for me is to take it in Armenia: Erevan - nearest test center - and this means more problems for me. I don't know what was the reason for their decision - I have asked by e-mail but ECFMG hasn't answered. Does anyone have any idea why they are doing this?confused

I am surprised - especially by Syris. I wonder if the governments from these countries might have something to do with it. Perhaps they are trying to keep qualified physicians in their countries (just a guess).

Hmmm, is it the US or the other countries?!

But we have a physician shortage in the US - it will be interesting to see the reasons that ECFMG offers.

Maybe they do not trust those countries? or the government ask them to leave.
