Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hello Guys

First of all thank you so much for such a fruitable forum.I started to get info from here since jan 2004 when i have been preparing for step-2CK(got 98/242 on may 2004).

Then many people helped me with my step-1 prep'.(got 95/236 on aug 2005)I have been prepared during my internship year.I read BSS,Kaplan's Qbook & Qbank and worked hard on FA.

So read well the main sources(FA,Kaplan's Qbank or UW) as experienced people recommend on this forum and plann your time well.Don't adjust yourself to people who say they prepare just in 2-3wks(as not many of us so geniouswink).Collect the material first, and then plan- what time it 'll take for you to handle this material.Try to cover main topics.

The exam is fair overall and if you encounter several difficult Qs, go on and save time on the rest Qs of particular block. So know well the topics in FA,I mean understand them well.nod

Good luck

Leon.

To Sasim

When to read Qbank & FA?

I made Qbank 4 wks before the exam.Regarding FA,you have to know(& understand the topics which they the stress on) it very very well,so it depends on how do u trust your memory..I revised my weak points from FA during last 2-3 wks.

I hope this helps

Yes,BSS contains 5 books.Very helpful are - parts 3-5(organ system overview).parts 1-2 are of general principles.. these are less helpful according what i saw in kaplan's qbook and on the exam..

Good Luck

Hi fetus

I have the BSS books, how should I be using them??? Should I study everything and then start doing a test everyday??? Please let me know what you did?? Thanks.

  #13

To Mavis and Khan

when I studied for step-1 i was graduated already,so I just needed to recall the material,so that's what I did:

The main thing is to solve as many MCQs as you can(not timed at the begining)and read the explanations. In BSS the explanations are AMAZING!(mainly concentrate on books 3-5)

And those more than enough.I read from other books only the topics which I didnt understood or knew well from the BSS.So this isuue is individual..

I had Kaplan's lecture notes, but when i started it was so time-consuming.But this is my experience.I know that most people pass tru the Kaplan's lectures notes.

So,start solving MCQs,read explanations and fill the gaps from other textbooks or notes and of course keep FA as your guideline.

GL,

Leon

Good job Fetus. With doing Q bank, I am getting mostly in the mid 70s to low 80s. Do you think that Qbank is reflective of the actual USMLE exam or is it easier? Did you do the NBMEs? If so, do you mind sharing your thoughts regarding difficulty on the NBME versus the USMLE. Thanks.

  #16

To pman,

I didnt do NBMEs. But you score in Qbanks puts your chance to be above 95 in the real exam.

My final Qbank score was 76 in step 1.In step 2 - 69.(but in step 2 i made UW too).

Hope this helps
