this seems to be pharyngitis due to mycoplasm. i go with D. oral erythromycin

i am tempted to chose B; throat culture, to get a clear diagnosis. but from what i have understood with this exam, treatment has priority to diagnosis.

Thanks. My guts told me to choose D as well, but can't explain why. Kaplan says "viruses are responsible for a majority of cases of pharyngitis." "All negative rapid step tests should be backed up with throat culture." any other thoughts about this?raised eyebrow

You have to prevent RHD in the kid .So go for D.Thas the priority here.

i think we should take a throat culture specimen first. Is it recomemnded to start treatment for pharyngitis before the culture results?

but under that logic, the better way to prevent RHD is to make sure it is Step infection-- doing throat culture and then using penicilin would be a better choice, isn't it?

Look the concept here is IF rapid test is NEGATIVE....always do throat culture next then Rx

RHD {Rhumatic Heart Disease}.U can take throat culture n start Penicilin prophylaxis if ASO titre high.But if Aso titre is normal i think then wait for culture report.
