I knew somebody who couldn't get H1-B in time, so residency program kept him as an attending physician on O-visa for several months until H1-B was ready.

It depends on the area that you are looking for - if you are open to any where in the country, it's easier.....

If all you need to do is come to the US for the step 2cs, then you should apply for a B1/b2 visa. Green cards can be obtained only on a H1b. They cannot be obtained while on a J-1, and only very rarely on an O-visa. If you're on a H1b, then you can go through labor certification if your employer is willing to sponsor you, or try to pursue an independent application on the extraordinary ability route. Hope that helps! CGR www.internationaldoc.com for more info on visas

hey Evybrasil, if u r on H4 then u can take cs on that. U dont need any other visa fr that. U need H1B/GC/EAD to start ur residency. If u guys r in the process of getting GC then u wud get EAD(employment authorization document) in a few mths(depending on the stage of process). Talk to ur lawyer abt it.

how easy is for a physician to get a green card? How do you get it? Is green card for life or do you have to renew it?

Green card is renewable every 10 years for life unless you commit a crime. After 5-7 years you can apply for citizenship which is for life and requires you to surrender your citizenship to any other country and your passport. A green card application typically takes about 2 years if you're applying for sponsorship by employment or on the basis of 'extraordinary ability'. It can take much much longer if you're applying based on your relationship with a family member who is already a US citizen. Hope that helps, CGR
