Which is the diagnostic test of choice for menopause?? i know mainly itīs a clinical diagnosis, but if you have to ask for a diagnostic test, which one would it be?

you should look for increased levels of FSH (>35IU/L) on day 3 of cycle initially, also look for decreased levels of estradiol. (more imp is lack of menses for 1 year and clinical features of estrogen deficency)

Here's something else important:Absolute contraindications to HRT

A: acute liver disease

B: undiagnosed vaginal bleeding

C: cancer of uterus, breast cancer is considered a relative contraindication

D: DVT (thromboembolic disease)

Oral contraceptives should also be contraindicated in ch.liver disease. are they?

yup, b/c they are metabolized in the liver.
  1. Absolute contraindications. Pregnancy, history of thromboembolic disease, stroke or TIA, focal or severe migraine, ischemic heart disease, severe hypertension, history of breast cancer or estrogen-dependent neoplasms, hepatic dysfunction or tumor, porphyria, current prolonged immobilization or recent surgery on legs, diabetes with end-organ damage, smoker (>20 cigarettes/day) over 35. Ask about family history of venous thromboembolism; if positive, consider screening for Factor V Leiden, etc. Relative contraindications. Postpartum less than 3 weeks, lactation, active gallbladder disease, active mononucleosis, undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding, light smoker over 35, long-term use of drugs decreasing the efficacy of the pill (rifampin, rifabutin, griseofulvin, phenytoin, phenobarbital, topiramate, carbamazepine, ampicillin, doxycycline, tetracycline)
