Hi, I´m an IMG, my question is only one and i want to thank you in advance for your replies. Is it really important for IMGs to get a high score in step 3 or just with pass the test is enough for the purposes to get an H1B visa since the beginning of the residency? does it make any real difference if you get 86 or if you get 97 in step 3?? THANK YOU, I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL YOUR RESPONSES

The only thing that makes a difference is that you pass on the first attempt. You really only need step three prior to most residencies if you are trying to get an H1 visa. Good luck

Then, the only important thing is to pass it on the first attempt, no matter if I do it with 86 or with 95 ? right? and the only useful thing of this test it to be able to get an H1B visa? (I´m asking because i plan tu study 2-3 months for this exam, not like many people here that plan to study 6 months approx. ) Is that correct bbb???

Again, the important thing is that you pass on the first attempt. You don't need step 3 - but if you take it prior to residency to get an appropriate visa - pass it on the first attempt.

we need to pass step 3 in first attempt for getting visa. but what about passing step 3 just for getting licence after residency. if we r not taking step 3 for visa than is it ok if we have more than one attempt. kindly advice

It´s hard to score high on the STep3. Especially if you are not in Int. med or Family med. Passing the exam is easy. Residents only study like 4 days prior to the exam. It is a pretty straightforward exam, with clinical questions that are simpler than the step 2. What you have to watch out for is ethics!
