Pemphigus Vulgaris
  • age: 30-40yrold
  • clinical findings: denuded skin with fragile suprabasal blisters which rupture easily, may see oral lesions
  • biopsy:acantholysis, separating of the epidermal cells
  • immunofluorecence:antibodies to antigens in epidermal intercellular spaces(desmosomes attacked)
  • antibodies: IgG (C3 deposition also seen)

Bullous Pemphigoid
  • age: 70-80yrs
  • clinical findings: tense subepidermal bullae, often intact, denuded eroded areas, no involvement of oral mucosa
  • Biopsy: entire epidermis lifting up and separating from dermis, deeper blisters at dermo-epidermo junction
  • immunofluorescence: antibodies at the dermo-epidermal junction(hemidesmosomes)
