hi all, this is my first time writing on this forum though i have been reading mails for some time now and found them very useful.i took ck on aug.30th after 2 months of intensive prep.i took the kaplan live lrctures both for step 1(90) and step 2 ck and found them very good, especially if u r short of time. the ck exam was very long and exhausting.time management and endurance is atleast 40% in my opinion.the questions were equally distributed with IM(pulmonology, endocrine, cardio),surgery(trauma)obgyn(management of stages and HT in preg plus follow up in gyn. malignancies),peds(immunizations, infections, emergencies)and psych(all kinds of weird stuff) being the main areas i was tested on.i felt some questions were longer and harder than UW(i scored 65%) but this maybe just stress.i would suggest studying MECHANISM of diseases and drugs rather than details and practice doing 50 qustions in 45 minutes in UW.i would be happy to answer any questions and GL to all.

hi saxena, i did not do kaplan simulated so i wouldnt know how useful it is.i did find the UW very useful.with respect to internal medicine,i feel that kaplan is not enough and if u have time,go thru either high yield or crush(i didnt have time and if u dont too,do ALL the IM questons in UW and understand the explanations).they do ask some weird stuff but its very uncommon and unpredictable so i would suggest going for the rare stuff only after u have ur basics strong.hope i anwsered ur questions.GL and i'm sure u'll do fine.the most imp. thing is BE CONFIDENT,PRACTICE QUESTION SOLVING AND TIME MANAGEMENT.

HI drkpp, i did the kaplan live lectures and my 2 months was not including the lecture period.i understand ur anxiety but i think its possible if u can form a strategy and stick with it.i started with int.medicine too and i think if u can read the notes once and then try to solve some questions and then another round of weak areas in tapes.....u should be good to move on to the next topic.peds and obgyn r equal in the exam so a thorough revision of these is worthwhile.once u r done with int.med, try to see all the other tapes within the next 4-6 weeks along with notes.after that,if u r able to score >55% in UW consistently, that is good.if not,u should consider postponing ur exam for a short while so that u can strenghten ur concepts a bit more.a good score is very useful for later so dont feel u have to rush into the exam.....dont worry, this is just another exam and u will done with all this and be in residency sooner than u know.GL and hope i helped.
