I dont see people talking about pathology residency. My question: how hard is to get a position in Pathology nowadays for IMG. I saw statistics showing that in 2004 almost 44% of PGY-1 was filled by IMG. Do you guys think that the candidates that seek pathology generally have a better CV or steps grades... Thanks

The information is very controversial.... some say that it is very easy... that you dont need high scores... and others that it is pretty difficult to get a position...

In my opinion, obviously the scores help, but I think if you have research in USA or clinical experience in Pathology or previous residency in our own country help more than scores.

Honestly, I dont know exactly how difficul it is to get a position. Probably easier than surgery, harder than FM or IM. Other thing, you have fewer spots in pathology... for example, in some hospitals you will find more than 30 PGY-1 positions in IM, but just 4 or 5 in pathology (less candidates to pathology... also less slots).

I think it is all for now, but any new information please post.

Generally the IMGs who get Pathology have done pathology residency before or a Ph.D program or even a Masters in Pathology.Nevertheless this does not mean new grads will not get a place. You should definitely try.
