I am not sure, but I would say that it is important the score if YOU DO NOT HAVE a residency yet. It can help compensate other bad scores of Step I or II. It also shows that you are ready to learn and that they will not lose your spot if you fail it. When I was in residency everyyone JUST WANTED TO PASS IT, did not matter the score...because everyone was SO BUSY that we barely had time to prepare. Once in residency, if you fail it you can lose your contract, dependidng on the clauses of the particular residencies. (it happened to me! ). All this I could say regarding to residencies without much prestige, I would not know about ivy leagues, universities or others, all this also in reference to Primary care and psych, I would not know about competitive specialties as Surgery, ortho, urology, ophthalmo, etc, etc. Anybody else another opinion? Thios is just an opinion OK?
