Start with reading First Aid and make decision which books you will use .

Hello gaurav_singh -

The way that you study depends alot on your time constraints and money available. Also, everyone is different so do what works for you. I would suggest the following sources:

1. First Aid
2. BRS Pathology
3. BRS Physiology
4. Lippincott's Pharm
5. HY Behavioral Science

I would go through the the review books, starting with path (most of the test is path) along with first aid. Whatever key topics are in BRS, etc that are not in first aid, write them in first aid in the margin notes. That way, whenever you have gone through all your books, you will have one source to review. Besides that, I would recommend getting Qreview and going through all the qeustions at least once. You can also add in UCV and do those cases that test facts that you have learned. UCV is cross referenced in first aid, so you will know what you have covered. This is my general plan. I know many people at my school who have done this and did well on step one. Good luck to you.

What is the amount of time that the students you know have taken to prepare for step 1, i am scheduled to take the exam jan 16th and feel that if i do things right im in good shape time wise. What do you think?

nish-

UCV stands for "Underground Clinical Vignettes". It is a series of books that present classic clinical scenarios that have frequently appeared on the boards. If you use first aid for the boards, you will see that at the bottom of many of the panels in the book, there will be a citation to UCV vignettes that test the idea taught in the panel. You can write down these citations as you learn the panels, and at a later time, you can go over these vignettes to see if you can apply what you learned.

it is good to see another Carl on the website! Same last initial too! grin Three months should be plenty. Most people at my school took 4 weeks to prepare.
