I am married to a medical school student. He is about to take the boards in a week, and I am terrified that he is going to fail. He is also pretty sure that the outlook doesn't look good. Is there any advice for a spouse, and what I can do to help my husband, and what we should do if he really does fail?

stay out of his way.make lots of coffee.and if he does fail, support him.life doesen't end with usmle.

Good advice there - also, I'll add: When he starts studying again - let him study!! No TV, no radio - if he needs hours and hours at the library - let him go.

Sometimes quiet support is the best.....

u sound pretty tense urself( which is understandable) but do not let it reflect on him.Support him the best u can. That is the best u can do for him.Stress is a killer at this stage.BTW why do u both think he is going to fail???If u 2 have solid grounds to beleive that then I wud recomend postponing his test .He'll be wastind one attempt plus al that fees if he takes the test without good preperation not metion the demoralization that comes with failing the exam. But if it is just a feeling due to anxiety just ignore it.Relax and make the most out of the last few days.

If he feels unprepared post phone the exam. study harder if no time restrictions.

Give him your support . Be a patient listener .I think this is important.
