For CNS examination, is it necessary to do Rinne's and Weber's test?

the standard equipment that is kept in each room does not include any tuning forks as per the USMLE video, so does that mean that they do not expect us to do that part of the exam?

that would also rule out Vibrations testing then???

also in the patient note do you list the procedures that you performed for each cranial nerve examination? because you're not supposed to write "Normal" under any heading, you have to specify what test/maneuver is within normal limits...isn't it?

i know in the actual exam you wouldn't have time for these minor above - mentioned tests, so i guess its important to leave them out of your flow of examination technique...

but then what does everyone write for VIII cranial nerve? Normal Hearing? based on what?

what does everyone have to say?

Accordingly to usmle.org/orientation/menu.htm Online Video Stills of the Step2 CS Orientation Video there is a tunning fork.

eyond this you have a whisper test which assesses the auditory acuity. Only if a patient has a diminished hearing (which means that hi doesn`t hear your soft whisper) we need to perform Weber and Rinne`s tests.
